At UFC 36, he defeated Randy Couture to become the youngest UFC heavyweight Champion only to have his title stripped from him because he tested positive for anabolic steroids. Shortly after Barnett traveled overseas and started his wrestlin career with the New Japan Pro Wrestling organization. Barnett stayed active in MMA competitions in Japan defeating Yuki Kondo to win the title of King of Pancrase. During a match, Barnett sustained a shoulder injury requiring surgery and six months of rehab. Barnett loves to take opponents down to the ground and pound them. He trains out of Matt Hume's world-renowned gym in Kirkland, Washington. Barnett recently fought the gold medalist Pawel Nastula at PRIDE 32, the organization's first show in the United States. In order to fight again in Nevada, the Nevada State Athletic Commission required that Barnett pass a mandatory drug test, which he did.
