Joseph Pannell pleaded guilty on February 22, 2008 to shooting Chicago police officer Terrence Knox in 1969. He was 19 at the time. Pannell was arrested, released on bail , then fled to Canada. Over the past 39 years, he married, raised a family, and worked in a library. In recognition of the life he's lived since the shooting, his sentence was 30 days in jail, two years probation, and a $250,000 payment to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.
