Czech professional hockey player Josef Vasicek plays for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League.
NHL Career
Vasicek was drafted 91st overall in the 1998 NHL draft by the Carolina Hurricanes. He spent two years with the Hurricanes Ontario Hockey League affiliate, the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, before making his NHL debut in 2000. Vasicek played for the HC Slavia Praha in the Czech Extraliga during the 2004-05 NHL lockout, then returned to the Hurricanes and helped them win the Stanley Cup Championship in 2006. On July 18, 2006, he was traded to the Nashville Predators. After only 38 games in Nashville, Vasicek was sent back to the Hurricanes, where he completed the 2006-07 season. On August 14, 2007, Vasicek signed as a free agent with the New York Islanders.
