José Theodore is a Canadian professional hockey player, currently playing for the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League. Theodore signed as a free agent with the Capitals on July 1, 2008.

Early Years
Theodore began his career in 1992, playing for the Saint-Jean Lynx of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He was drafted 44th overall in the 1994 NHL draft by the Montreal Canadiens. Theodore continued in the QMJHL for one additional season before making his NHL debut with the Canadiens in 1995. He went on to split his next two seasons between the NHL and the Canadiens' American Hockey League affiliate, the Fredericton Canadiens.
Recent Career
Starting in 2001, Theodore became the starting goaltender for the Canadiens. He finished the season with a 2.11 goals against average and a .931 save percentage. Those numbers earned him the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's top goaltender, the Roger Crozier Saving Grace Award for the best save percentage and the Hart Memorial Trophy for the NHL's Most Valuable Player. After just short of four more seasons in Montreal, Theodore was traded to the Colorado Avalanche on March 8, 2006, where he served as the starting goaltender through the 2007-08 season.
