Seven-year-old Jose Griggs and his friend, nine-year-old Jayla Cooper were "married" in a symbolic ceremony in February of 2009. Best Friends
Both Griggs and Cooper were diagnosed with leukemia approximately two years before their wedding. They met and became close friends while receiving treatment at the Children's Medical Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. Griggs' parents reported that Cooper helped their son deal with his disease. According to Griggs' father, Lawrence Griggs, since meeting Cooper, his son is "brighter, happier and more content with all that they go through in the hospital.
