Jose Contreras is a right-handed pitcher for the Chicago White Sox. A native of Cuba, Contreras originally signed with the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 2003. After a couple of years as a minor league pitching prospect in the Yankees farm system, Contreras made his major league debut on March 31, 2003. The following season, the Yankees traded him to the White Sox, for Esteban Loaiza. In 2006 Contreras made his first All-Star Team.
