On June 18, 2009, Canseco announced his intent to file a class-action lawsuit against MLB and the MLB Players' Association claiming they kicked him out of the game because he went public with steroid use. Jose Canseco: The Last Shot
During an A&E documentary aired in October of 2008, entitled Jose Canseco: The Last Shot, Canseco made the statement that he regrets writing the tell-all book Juiced. In the program, he states that he regrets hurting his former teammates and that during the time that he wrote the book, he wanted revenge since he felt he was forced out of the game by Major League Baseball. He went on to state, "If I could meet with Mark McGwire and these players, I definitely would apologize to them. They were my friends. I admired them. Playing Career
Born in Communist Cuba in 1964, his family emigrated to the United States when Canseco was an infant. While in high school and in the minors, Canseco became known for the tape-measure home runs he would hit. During his first full season with the Oakland Athletics in 1986, Canseco clubbed 33 homers and drove in 117, earning him American League Rookie of the Year honors.The Baseball Page: Jose Canseco Two years later, Canseco snagged the American League Most Valuable Player Award. Between 1988 and 1990, Canseco helped lead the A's to three-straight World Series and a World Championship in 1989. Steroids Controversy
In 2005, in the midst of the Barry Bonds steroids scandal, Canseco wrote a purported tell-all book entitled Juiced, in which he admitted using steroids and claimed to have injected several former teammates with the performance enhancing drug, including Mark McGwire, Jason Giambi and Rafael Palmiero. Conseco Madonna Allegations
