Jordy Ray Nelson was born on May 31, 1985, in Manhattan, Kansas. He played on both sides of the line as a prep at Riley County High School in Kansas as a quarterback and defensive back. Nelson moved on to play college football with the Kansas State Wildcats football team in the NCAA as a safety and wide receiver. After walking on as a true freshman in 2003, he left the school with 206 receptions for 2,822 yards to become the second player in school history to ever record over 2,000 receiving yards.
