  • Jordan Leopold is an American professional athlete in the National Hockey League. He is currently a defenseman with the Calgary Flames.

    On March 4, 2009, Jordan Leopold was traded from the Colorado Avalanche to the Calgary Flames. The Colorado Avalanche received a 2009 first round draft pick, Lawrence Nycholat and Ryan Wilson in exchange for Leopold. ESPN.com: Flames acquire Leopold, Jokinen

  • Early Years

    Prior to playing in the NHL, Leopold attended and played for the University of Minnesota, starting in 1998. He was drafted 44th overall in the 1999 NHL draft by the Anaheim Ducks. He was then traded on September 26, 2000, to the Calgary Flames, but continued to play in college. In 2001 and 2002, he was selected as the Western Collegiate Hockey Association defensive player of the year. Also in 2002, Leopold was given the Hobey Baker Award as the top college hockey player in the NCAA.
  • Recent Career

    After graduating from college in 2002, Leopold went to play for the Saint John Flames, a Calgary Flames' American Hockey League affiliate. Playing just three games in the minors, he was called up to make his NHL debut and continued as a full roster member of the Flames. In just his second NHL season, Leopold helped the Flames reach the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals, where they were defeated by the Tampa Bay Lightning. In 2006, Leopold was selected to represent the United States in the Winter Olympics. Just a few months later, on June 24, 2006, Leopold was traded to the Colorado Avalanche.
