Attempted Extortion of Beth Holloway
In June of 2010, van der Sloot was indicted on charges that he attempted to extort $250,000 from Beth Holloway, the mother of Natalee Holloway. According to a United States Department of Justice investigation, van der Sloot told Holloway that he would reveal the location of Natalee's body if she wired him the money.
Working with a government investigator, Holloway sent an initial payment of $15,000 to van der Sloot's bank account in Aruba. She then sent another $10,000 to an attorney in New York who was supposed to transfer the money to van der Sloot. Joran van der Sloot Prime Suspect in Peruvian Murder Arrested
Joran van der Sloot is the pirme suspect in the murder of 21 year old Stephany Flores Ramirez. She was found beaten and stabbed to death in the Hotel Pac in Lima, Peru in a hotel room registered to van der Sloot. Her body was found on June 2, 2010 by a hotel employee. It had been reported that van der sloot had been seen crossing the border into Chile.
He was arrested in Chile on Thursday June 3rd and returned to Peru on Friday June 4th. He went through a 7 hour interragation on Monday June 7th were he is reported to have confessed to Ramirez' murder. He is reported to have told authorities that he had left the room to get some groceries and when he returned had found her in his computer. He told authorities that she had found some things that connected him to the Natalee Holloway disappearance which he said angered him, because she had invaded his privacy. He told authorities that they argued as she was trying to leave and during the arguement she was fatally wounded.

Connection with Disappearance
The son of a prominent lawyer, Joran van der Sloot has been arrested twice but never charged with a crime in connection with Natalee Holloway's 2005 disappearance. On May 30, 2005, Holloway failed to show up for a return flight to the United States after a week spent celebrating her graduation from high school in Aruba. Van der Sloot and two Surinamese brothers, Deepak Kalpoe and Satish Kalpoe were initially questioned and held in conjunction with the disappearance, as they admitted they were the last people to see Holloway alive. Joran van der Sloot is the prime suspect in the murder of 21 year old Stephany Flores Ramirez. Surveillance camera's show van der Sloot and Ramirez entering van der Sloot's room together. Van der Sloot left Peru and entered Chile where he was arrested in Santiago. Joran van der Sloot was returned to Peru where during an interragation on Monday June 7th he confessed to the murder of Stephany Flores Ramirez. He is expected to be formally charges with the murder of Ramirez within the week.
