  • Career Highlights

    Jonathan Cheechoo began his career in 1997, playing for the Belleville Bulls in the Ontario Hockey League. He was then drafted 29th overall in the 1998 NHL draft by the San Jose Sharks. Cheechoo played two additional seasons after the draft in the OHL, then joined the Kentucky Thoroughblades of the American Hockey League in 2000. He played with the Thoroughblades as they became the Cleveland Barons in 2001, then went on to make his NHL debut with the Sharks in 2002. During the 2004-05 NHL lockout, Cheechoo played for the HV71, part of the Elitserien, or Swedish Elite League. Cheechoo returned to the Sharks to have his statistically best season in 2005-06. He scored 56 goals, including 24 power play goals, both San Jose Sharks team records. He was honored with the Rocket Richard Trophy also that season, as the NHL's leading goal scorer.
