The 'dream home' was set up in a rental house that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Jonathan Adler was commissioned by Mattel to create the backdrop for Barbie's 50th birthday party on March 9, 2009. The project took six months to plan. The house is a 3,500 square foot mansion in Malibu that is often rented for movie shoots.
