Republican Jon Kyl is the junior U.S. Senator from Arizona and is currently serving his third term in the office. His seat is next to be contested in an election in 2012. Born in Oakland, Nebraska, Kyl moved with his family to Iowa as a child, and in his teens, his father, John Henry Kyl, was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. John Kyl's parents were John and Arlene Kyle. His father John Kyl died in December, 2002 and was also a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from Iowa.
Jon Kyl is married to Caryll Collins, they have two children (Kristine Kyl Gavin and John Kyl) together. Kyl also has four grandchildren ( Frances Kyl, Christopher Gavin, Jonathan Kyl, and Alicia Gavin).
Political Career
Kyl began his life in politics in 1987 when he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Arizona's 4th District.
In 1994, Kyl was elected Senator from Arizona and has served in that capacity alongside senior Senator John McCain ever since. His 2006 re-election campaign was dominated by debates over immigration. Kyl was a co-sponsor of legislation requiring undocumented aliens to leave the country within five years. He is currently the Senate Minority Whip and serves on the Judiciary and Finance Committees.
