Jon Corzine

Jon Corzine is the former one-term Governor of New Jersey, as well as a former senior U.S Senator for the same state. Having lost his bid for reelection to the New Jersey governorship in the November 2009 elections, Corzine, a former CEO of Goldman Sachs, is currently the Chairman of the Board and CEO for the financial firm, MF Global Inc.

Political Career

Corzine defeated former Republican New Jersey Governor Jim Florio for the Senate seat vacated by Frank Lautenberg in 2000.

In 2005, Corzine ran for the New Jersey governorship. Corzine won the election, and appointed Bob Menendez to succeed him as Senator. In April, 2007, a motorcade transporting Corzine to a meeting crashed on the Garden State Parkway, critically injuring the Governor. Corzine was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

In 2009, Corzine lost his bid for reelection as Governor of New Jersey to Republican candidate Chris Christie.

Early Life

Prior to entering politics, Corzine was a multimillionaire in the world of finance, becoming the Chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs in 1994. After serving in various advisory capacities in the Clinton Administration, he decided to use his vast wealth to fund a run for the New Jersey Senate in 2000.
