Early Life
Prior to entering politics, Corzine was a multimillionaire in the world of finance, becoming the Chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs in 1994. After serving in various advisory capacities in the Clinton Administration, he decided to use his vast wealth to fund a run for the New Jersey Senate in 2000.Political Career
Corzine defeated former Republican New Jersey Governor Jim Florio for the Senate seat vacated by Frank Lautenberg in 2000. In 2005, Corzine ran for the New Jersey governship. Corzine won the election, and appointed Bob Menendez to succeed him as Senator. In April, 2007, a motorcade transporting Corzine to a meeting crashed on the Garden State Parkway, critically injuring the Governor. Corzine was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
