National Football League linebacker Jon Beason currently plays for the Carolina Panthers.
Early career
While in high school. Beason played football and basketball and ran track. He then attended the University of Miami, FL where he studied business management. Beason was redshirted in 2003 after a shoulder injury. He returned to the team in 2004, playing all 12 regular season games. He continued with Miami through his junior season, finishing with 187 tackles and one interception.
Carolina Panthers
Beason was selected 25th overall by the Carolina Panthers in the 2007 NFL Draft. He played all 16 regular season NFL games with the Panthers in 2007. Beason recorded 140 tackles, including 115 solo tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one interception.
Beason finished just behind Patrick Willis for the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award also in 2007.
