  • The Joint Emergency Operations Center, or JEOC, located in Sacramento, California, is a 'state-of-the-art' headquarters for facilitating a rapid and coordinated response to bioterrorism, pandemic flu and other public health emergencies.

On April 24, 2009, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger activated the JEOC in an immediate response to an outbreak of swine influenza which had infected at least seven people in the state.

  • Schwarzenegger Initiative

The JEOC was built as part of Governor Schwarzenegger's campaign promise to improve the state's safety and improve their response time in the case of natural and man-made emergencies. The governor's budget plan included $61 million in state and federal funds for local and state public health, including $27.6 specifically for influenza pandemic response efforts.
