Johnny Depp is an American actor who first became popular for his role in the TV Series 21 Jump Street and then rose to fame for his lead performance in Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands. His most notable role is playing Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Depp is set to appear in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

Background
John Christopher Depp II was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on June 9, 1963. His parents are waitress Betty Sue Palmer and civil engineer and John Christopher Depp, Sr. He has a brother named Danny, and two sisters Christie, who is Depp's manager and Debbie. His parents divorced when he was 15, and the stress from that event caused him to self harm himself. In 1983, Depp married Lori Anne Allison but the couple was divorced in 1985. Since 1998, he has been dating French singer/actress Vanessa Paradis, the couple have a son and daughter. -
Career
In 1987, Depp starred in the series 21 Jump Street. His first major film role was in the 1984 film A Nightmare on Elm Street. Depp has appeared in several Tim Burton films including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Sleepy Hollow. -
