John Stockton is a retired professional basketball player who played 18 seasons with the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association. John Stockton holds the record for most career assists and steals and is widely considered one of the NBA's top five all-time point guards. Stockton’s accomplishments place him next to all-time great point guards such as Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas and Bob Cousy. On April 6, 2009, John Stockton joined fellow NBA legends David Robinson and Michael Jordan in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Stockton’s effect on the point guard position can still be felt till this day. The best point guards are always chasing and hoping to be compared to John Stockton. His mastery of running an offense, and more importantly, the pick and roll made Stockton a legend. He’s beloved by Utah and NBA fans alike. It will be a longtime until we see his equal. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/john_stockton/index.html
NBA Career
For most of his career, Stockton played alongside fellow legend Karl Malone. The two became one of the NBA's most prolific tandems, utilizing the pick-and-roll to near perfection. John Stockton and Karl Malone led the Jazz to the NBA Finals in 1997 and again in 1998. However, both resulted in losses to the Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls. John Stockton appeared in 10 All-Star Games and played on the 1992 and 1996 US Olympic basketball teams. Stockton is considered one of the best players to never have won an NBA championship.
John Stockton is the record holder for career assists and steals. His assists total comes in at 15,806 and his number of steals was 3,265. Those numbers are outstanding and it might just take the best playmaker ever to break them. Odds are that it will be a long, long time until we see a player challenge either of those records.
