John Singleton is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer.
Career
John Singleton, at 24, was the youngest person, and the first African-American, nominated for Best Director at the 1991 Academy Awards for Boyz n the Hood. It was his first feature film. Previously, he worked as a production assistant on television shows like Pee-Wee's Playhouse. Through the 1990s and into the 21st century, Singleton has written, produced, or directed a number of films featuring African-American characters and themes.
