  • John Patrick Shanley is an American, award winning playwright, screenwriter and director.

    In 1998, he won an Academy Award for his screenplay for the film Moonstruck. He also won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize in drama for his stage play Doubt: A Parable. In 2008, he directed a critically acclaimed film version of Doubt which starred Philip Seymour Hoffman, Meryl Streep and Amy Adams.

    In 2009, he was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for Doubt, but the award went to Simon Beaufoy, writer of Slumdog Millionaire.
