According to statements from the Pentagon Police Chief Richard Keevil, the suspect approached the building entrance and when asked to show his ID to gain entrance he began firing. Two officers were injured and the suspect was shot. All three were transported to the hospital and the Pentagon immediately went into a full lockdown. Officer Jeffery Amos and Marvin Carraway injuries were non-life threatening while Bedell's were more critical. The officers involved in the shooting were assigned to The Pentagon Force Protection Agency who are participating in the investigation with the Arlington Country Police. Little is yet know about the Pentagon shooter, but news source HollisterFreeLance.com has confirmed the suspect was raised in the town of Hollister, California. His mother, Kaye Bedell is the director of allied health at Gavilan College, and his father John Bedell, Sr. is a local financial planner. Internet researchers and stories hit the media waves quickly after Bedell's name was confirmed as the suspect. A 2006 arrest of a 36 year old, J Patrick Bedell was made in Irvine, CA in 2006 after a search warrant to check his home resulted in finding marijuana. Bedell's reaction was non cooperative, resulting in the officers having to pick him up and carry him to the car because he would not walk. Bedell posted to marijuana legalization boards regarding his quest for legalization in 2007.
