  • John Mellencamp, also known as John "Cougar" Mellencamp, is an American singer-songwriter whose rootsy style and mid-western sensibilities have made him a popular entertainer for more than two decades. Mellencamp's most successful period came during the late 1980s and early 1990s when hits such as "Jack and Diane," "Small Town" and "Pink Houses" made him a household name. While his late 90s work garnered critical acclaim, it didn't match the commercial success of his earlier work. Recently, his song "Our Country" from his 2007 album Freedom's Road, was featured on a Chevy Silverado television commercial.

Mellencamp's son Hud won a division title in the Indiana Golden Gloves boxing tournament in mid April of 2009.Huffington Post: Hud Mellencamp Wins Indiana Golden Gloves (April 17, 2009)
