    John McCook is a bona fide Californian. He went to school at Long Beach State College and there he appeared in the production of Tea and Sympathy. He also worked at Disneyland. He was noticed by the famous Jack Warner] while playing the part of Tony in West Side Story. Universal Studios signed him as a contract player. He was drafted into the U.S. Army for a two year tour of duty. His professional debut was at the San Diego Circle Arts Theater. He was fortunate to be able to work at Melodyland in Guys and Dolls, along with Hugh O'Brian and Betty Grable. Other theater productions he appeared in were Firefly, and Flower Drum Song.
