Education is a key issue in the 2008 presidential election. The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) has set performance standards for public schools throughout the United States, but has been criticized for its lack of funding. Though John McCain did not originally vote to approve No Child Left Behind, he has since become one of its major proponents.
No Child Left Behind
While John McCain was not one of the original supporters of the No Child Left Behind Act, he has become one of its advocates. However, McCain does believe that the program needs some reform. He believes that more accountability should be put on the individual teachers as well as schools. If the schools and the teachers do not fit a child's needs, McCain believes that parents should be granted vouchers to schools that better suit their children. On The Issues: John McCain on Education
