John Mason

John Mason is the ex-fiance of Jennifer Wilbanks, the woman who achieved notoriety in 2005 for falsely claiming to police that she had been abducted, when she really had run away to avoid marrying Mason. When Wilbanks failed to arrive back to her home in Duluth, Georgia, after a morning jog, Mason called the police and a nationwide manhunt ensued. Four days after going missing, Wilbanks called Mason from New Mexico, to say she had been abducted by a Hispanic man and a white woman driving a blue van, although she later retracted that story when questioned by Albuquerque police. Mason and Wilbanks soon broke off their engagement, and Wilbanks was sentenced to two years' probation and community service for her false claims. In March 2008, John Mason married a different woman, Shelley Martin, in a small ceremony at his parents' home in Duluth.
