  • John Mark Karr falsely confessed to the murder of six-year old JonBenet Ramsey in 2006. Karr was apprehended by Thailand police in Bangkok, and extradited to the United States where he faced questioning regarding the child's murder. Charges against him were subsequently dropped.

    After extensive detective work, a thorough interrogation and DNA analysis, authorities deemed that Karr could not have been responsible for Ramsey's death. He was released from custody in Colorado, where Ramsey was murdered, and sent to California, where he was wanted for child pornography related charges.     Since returning to the US, Karr has appeared several times on the FOX News Channel program, On the Record with Greta Van Susteren. The following are excerpts from his appearance July 9, 2008.

    Responding to news that new DNA evidence had officially exonerated the Ramsey family of suspicion:

    • "I'm extremely pleased... It's a wonderful day that we can acknowledge that this family's innocent. They're wonderful people and they should never have suffered like they did."

    Asked to clarify whether or not he murdered JonBenet Ramsey:

    • "Well, I'm not here to answer questions like that. I've already answered that question o ver and over and I don't rescind anything that I've said in the past."
