John Lennon

Categories: Entertainment
  • John Lennon was a musician, artist, author and peace activist who began his career as singer, songwriter, and co-founder of The Beatles. Following the break up of The Beatles in 1970, John went on to have a successful career as a solo artist. On December 8, 1980, Lennon was murdered outside of his New York apartment building. His work continues to influence generations of artists and musicians.

Lennon's killer, Mark David Chapman, was denied parole for a fifth time in August of 2008. Lennon supporters sent 50 letters and a petition of over 1,000 signatures to the Attica Correctional Facility parole board arguing against Chapman's release.

  • Life and Achievements

While many of The Beatles' songs were credited to Lennon and Paul McCartney, Lennon wrote many of The Beatles' most recognizable songs himself, including "Help!," "A Hard Day's Night" and "Come Together."

In 1969, Lennon married Yoko Ono after divorcing Cynthia Lennon the previous year; the two would remain together until his death in 1980. With Ono, Lennon engaged in more political activism and began to grow distant from The Beatles. In the 1970s, after the breakup of the band, John and Yoko recorded many songs together, with Lennon recording hit songs such as "Imagine" and "Give Peace a Chance."
