Life and Early Career
John Leguizamo was born in Bogota, Columbia, but his family moved to New York City when he was three years old. He attended New York University, where he took classes in acting. Leguizamo began his professional career as a stand up comic and soon found his way into the world of Off-Broadway theater, which led to his participation in the Obie Award winning Mambo Mouth.
Film Career
He soon began appearing in a number of TV shows and even produced his own show called House of Buggin. The show aired on FOX in 1995 but was canceled after one season. His career hit a new high when he starred as Tybalt in Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet in 1996. After that his next big appearance came in 2001 as Toulouse-Lautrec in Moulin Rouge, which was also directed by Luhrmann.
In more recent years he has had success as the voice of Sid in the Ice Age animated movie series and also featured heavily in the 2005 season of ER. In 2008, he stars in Righteous Kill alongside Robert De Niro and Al Pacino as well as Mauricio Rodriguez in Nothing Like the Holidays.
