John Lautner was an
American architect who designed futuristic private residences, mostly in southern
California. Some of his houses are shaped as octagons or other exotic
geometrical forms, and rest upon a single thick concrete pole, which gives the structures the appearance of being suspended in mid-air.
[New York Times: John Lautner’s Celebrated Homes] Lautner contributed to the development of "Googie," an American futuristic architectural style. His buildings were featured in
movies and
video games, and were subject to restoration.
