Writer, Producer, Director (and occasional Actor) John Hughes died at the age of 59 on August 6, 2009. Hughes is credited with writing, directing and producing numerous popular teen-flicks of the 1980's including Pretty in Pink, Weird Science, Sixteen Candles and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Hughes started his career as a writer. His first involvement in writing for the screen was writing five episodes of the 1979 TV series, Delta House. Hughes first film as a Director was Sixteen Candles, which was made in 1984, Hughes was also the writer for the film. Hughes was also a Producer. His first producing role was for the 1986 film "Pretty in Pink".
Hughes also had a special working relationship with actor John Candy who starred in eight of his films between 1983 and 1991.
On March 7, 2010 there was a tribute to John Hughes at the 82nd Academy Awards. This was announced by Matthew Broderick and Molly Ringwald.
