John Hughes Oscar Tribute

Hughes received his very own Tribute Video at the 82nd Academy Awards. Here is a short clip from the video played during the event.

At the 2010 Academy Awards, actress Molly Ringwald and actor Matthew Broderick introduced a special tribute to legendary writer and director John Hughes, who passed away from a heart attack in August of 2009, when he was only 59 years old. Hughes is credited with launching the careers of several young stars in the 1980s, Ringwald and Broderick among them. Molly Ringwald in particular was one of John's muses, starring in Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink among others. Matthew Broderick is still well-known for his iconic turn as the title character in John Hughes' Ferris Bueller's Day Off. After a short introductory speech, Ringwald and Broderick introduced a montage of John Hughes' films, including scenes from:

After the video concluded, Broderick and Ringwald were joined on stage by several other John Hughes protegés: Jon Cryer, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall and Macauley Culkin. Each shared a fond memory of the deceased director, and Broderick introduced John Hughes' family sitting in the audience at the Kodak Theatre, which included John's wife Nancy and his two children. They were given a standing ovation by the crowd.

Ally Sheedy quoted The Breakfast Club, saying "when you get older your heart dies," and attributing the words to a real-life Peter Pan, who refused to get old.

The tribute ended with Broderick saying "Danke Shoen" to John Hughes.

Career

John Hughes was perhaps the most sought after writer, and later director, in the 1980s and into the early 1990s. He wrote a number of hugely popular and successful films, among them the enduring comedies Vacation, European Vacation and Christmas Vacation. He also directed a fair number of his movies, beginning with 1984's Sixteen Candles.

John Hughes stepped off of the national stage in the early 1990s, directing his final film, Curly Sue in 1991. He continued to write movies, however, penning scripts up until his death, with 2002's Maid in Manhattan his last major studio picture.http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000455/
