Writer, producer and director John Hughes was responsible for a slew of well-known movies, including the 1980s comedies Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles and Planes, Trains & Automobiles. Hughes also penned scripts for the tremendously popular Home Alone franchise.
On August 6, 2009, Hughes suffered a fatal heart attack during a family visit to New York City.
