  • Controversy

    During his stint as host of The Big Story, Gibson became embroiled in several controversies over comments he made on the air. In October, 2007, Gibson said that he knew the gunman in the SuccessTech Academy shooting in Cleveland, Ohio was white and that the incident wasn't perpetrated by a "hip-hopper" because the gunman killed himself and "[hip-hoppers] shoot and move on to shoot again." In May, 2006, Gibson made comments concerning the birth rate of Hispanics which drew fire, and in 2008, just two months before the cancellation of The Big Story, he mocked on his syndicated radio program the recently deceased Heath Ledger.
