John Favara was the neighbor of crime boss John Gotti in Howard Beach, Queens, New York. In March 1980, Favara struck and killed Gotti's 12-year-old son Frankie in a traffic accident. The death was ruled an accident. Favara disappeared in July 1980. Witnesses say they saw him being beaten and thrown into the back of a van. Although his body was never found, he was declared dead in 1983.
In January 2009, court documents in the case of alleged mobster Charles Carneglia revealed that Favara's body may have been dissolved in a barrel of acid.Ny Daily News: Informant Says Gotti Sr.'s Neighbor...Favara, Was Killed; Dumped in...Acid (January 8, 2009)
Body Dissolved in Acid?
In January 2009, an informant claimed Favara's body had been disposed of by being placed in a barrel of acid and left to dissolve. The revelation came when court papers were filed in the case against alleged mobster Charles Carneglia, who will stand trial for racketeering and five murders. Carneglia allegedly told the story to a Gambino crime family member, who is now a government witness.Ny Daily News: Informant Says Gotti Sr.'s Neighbor...Favara, Was Killed; Dumped in...Acid (January 8, 2009)
