John Entwistle was the legendary bassist for The Who. He and with drummer Keith Moon formed the unique rhythm section for the band. His distinctive style (Pete Townshend has commented that Entwistle often played the "lead" guitar with his bass) is most famously displayed on The Who's classic song "My Generation".
Entwistle served as secondary songwriter for The Who, contributing songs such as My Wife and Trick of the Light. He also released several solo albums and toured with his own bands while continuing to perform with The Who until his death from a cocaine-related heart attack on June 27, 2002, the day before The Who were scheduled to play the first show of their 2002 US tour.
