On August 8, 2008, ABC News reported that John Edwards had admitted having an extramarital affair with Rielle Hunter. In an August 8 interview with Nightline, Edwards said he did not believe he was the father of Hunter's baby girl, Frances Quinn Hunter, who was born in February 2008. Edwards admitted lying several times during his presidential campaign, when he denied having a sexual relationship with Hunter. According to Edwards, his wife, Elizabeth Edwards, has known about the affair since 2006.
Alleged Rendezvous
In July 2008, a security guard at a hotel in Beverly Hills told Fox News that he encountered Edwards in the hotel's bathroom. Edwards was being chased down by tabloid reporters and went into the restroom to hide. The security guard escorted Edwards past the reporters and out of the building. Refusal
In his Nightline interview, Edwards stated his willingness to take a paternity test to prove he was not the father of Hunter's baby. However, Hunter has declined to participate in DNA testing, citing privacy concerns for herself and her daughter. Hunter made the statement through her lawyer, Robert Gordon, on August 9.
