  • John Dillinger was a popular bank robber during The Great Depression. Most well know for his criminal activity that last from 1933-1934.     Born to a middle class family in 1903, John Herbert Dillinger spent a troubled youth in Indianapolis and Mooresville, Indiana. After deserting the Navy and a stint in Indiana State Prison, Dillinger began his famous 14 months of crime.http://www.fbi.gov/libref/historic/famcases/dillinger/dillinger.htm

    1. May 22, 1933 - Released from Prison
    2. July 17, 1933 - Robs the Commercial Bank of Daleville with Harry Copeland and Hilton Crouch
    3. August 4, 1933 - Robs First National Bank of Montpelier, Indiana, with Copeland and Crouch.
    4. August 14, 1933 - Robs Citizens National Bank of Bluffton, Ohio, with Copeland and Crouch.
    5. Sept. 6, 1933 - Robs Massachusetts Avenue State Bank in Indianapolis with Copeland and Crouch.
    6. September 22, 1933 - Captured and transferred to Lima Jail.
    7. October 12, 1933 - Pierpont, Makley and Clark break Dillinger out of jail.
    8. October 14, 1933 - Robs the Auburn, Indiana, police station arsenal with Pierpont and Walter Dietrich.
    9. October 21, 1933 - Robs the Peru, Indiana, police station arsenal with Pierpont and Dietrich.
    10. October 23, 1933 - Robs Central National Bank of Greencastle, Indiana, with Pierpont, Makley, Clark, Copeland, Hamilton, and either Hilton Crouch or Leslie Homer
    11. November 20, 1933 - Robs American Bank and Trust Company in Racine, Wisconsin, with Pierpont, Makley, Clark, Hamilton, and Leslie Homer
    12. January 25, 1934 - Dillinger arrested at the North Avenue house.
    13. March 3, 1934 - Dillinger escapes from jail.
    14. March 6, 1934 - Robs the Security National Bank in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with Homer Van Meter, Eddie Green, Tommy Carroll, and Baby Face Nelson.
    15. March 7, 1934 - The Department of Investigation (FBI) enters the case.
    16. March 13, 1934 - Robs the First National Bank of Mason City, Iowa, with Homer Van Meter, Eddie Green, Tommy Carroll, Baby Face Nelson, and John Hamilton.
    17. April 13, 1934 - Robs the police arsenal at Warsaw, Indiana with Homer Van Meter.
    18. May 1934 - Attempts to remove fingerprints with acids
    19. June 30, 1934 - Robs the Merchants' National Bank in South Bend, Indiana, with Van Meter, Baby Face Nelson and John Paul Chase.
    20. July 22, 1934 - Dillinger killed by law enforcement.

    The Dillinger Gang consisted of John Dillinger, Walter Dietrich, Russell Clark Harry Pierpont, John Hamilton, Charles Makley, Harry Copeland, Joseph Fox, James Clark, Joe Burns, Edward Shouse, James Jenkins, Baby Face Nelson, Homer Van Meter, Eddie Green and Tommy Carroll.
