  • As a Director

Cassavetes' directorial debut came about because of an offhand comment he made on a radio show. In 1957, he was being interviewed about a recent role he played when he commented that he felt the film was a disappointment. He went on to say that he could make a better one, if only he could find funding. Cassavetes promised listeners that if they contributed, he would make a film "about people".
