John Byrne

Career

John Byrne's art for fanzines got the attention of Charleston Comics - the company that eventually gave him his first professional sales. Byrne also worked on a number of second-tier Marvel Comics titles, including collaborations with writer Chris Claremont. This led to Byrne joining Claremont for a long run on The Uncanny X-Men, during which time Byrne became a fan favorite.

In addition to his contribution to the Marvel Comics mythology on Uncanny X-Men and Fantastic Four, Byrne also helmed a re-boot of Superman for DC Comics, The Man of Steel
