  • Johan Santana is an All-Star pitcher for the New York Mets. He has won the Cy Young Award twice in 2004 and in 2006. He also won the Pitching triple crown in 2006 leading the American league in Wins, Strikeouts and lowest earned run average. He is widely considered one of the best and most intimidating pitchers in Major League Baseball.

  • Early Life

    Johan Alexander Santana Araque was born in Tovar, Venezuela. He attended Liceo Jose Nucete Sardi High School where he played baseball as a center fielder.
  • Pro Career

    Santana made his major league debut on April 3, 2000, as a relief pitcher for the Minnesota Twins. For the next several seasons he would shuffle back and forth between the bullpen and as a starter. He would have a break out season in 2004, leading the American League in strikeouts and compiling a record of 20-6. He would go on to win his first American League Cy Young Awardthen he would follow that up in 2006 with a second Cy Young Award. In 2007, he was traded to the New York Mets, he then signed a six year contract for $137.5 million dollars, which at the time of the signing was the highest paid contract for a pitcher in baseball history.
