Joey and Rory (often shown in print as Joey+Rory) are a Country music duo who gained their current claim to fame through their performances on CMT’s Can You Duet show. The husband and wife duet finished third in the competition but the pair was able to sign a record deal with Sugar Hill Records as a result of the show. Since the release of their first duo album The Life of a Song, and Rory’s solo album My Ol Man, the pair has climbed in popularity and were selected as the 2010 Academy of Country Music Awards Top New Vocal Duo. By winning this award, they are now competing for the award of Top New Artist. In addition to the honor of being named Top New Vocal Duo, Joey and Rory are nominated for the Top Vocal Duo category competing with country legends Brooks & Dunn, Sugarland, Montgomery Gentry, and Steel Magnolia.
Joey and Rory received their trophy for Top New Vocal Duo presented by Trace Adkins in a televised show on Great American Country (GAC) on April 1, 2010. The show was taped at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN. The duo is currently competing in the online voting for the Top New Artist award. Votes can be cast at www.VoteACM.com with the winner being announced live at the 45th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards. The awards show will be broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The event takes place Sunday, April 18, 2010 at 8:00 PM EST and will be aired live on the East Coast, at 7 PM in the Central Time Zone, and delayed for an 8 PM airing in Pacific Time areas. Career
Rory Feek is a Kansas-born songwriter who moved to Nashville in 1995 looking to sell his songs. His first writing gig was with legendary songwriter Harlan Howard where he worked until 2000. Rory has also worked with Clint Black's Blacktop Music and started Giantslayer Publishing with his partner Tim Johnson. His hit songs as a writer include Chain Of Love for Clay Walker and The Truth About Men by artist Tracy Byrd. Joey Feek, the primary vocalist in the Joey and Rory duo, was born in Alexandria, Indiana and has been singing country music all of her life. Her debut public performance was a talent show when she was six years old. From that first grade rendition of Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors through the recording of a shelved debut album with Sony Records in 2000 and a second non released album in 2004 all the way to the Can You Duet appearances in 2008, Joey Martin Feek kept the dream of being a country music singer alive. The couple’s video audition for Can You Duet, shown as a featured video below, tells the stories of their lives and how they believe they were meant to be together. Rory describes Joey by saying she ropes and rides, drives a dually and loves her hound dog Rufus. Both were raised around country music and as the video audition rolls, Rory plays the song she remembers most from her parents Have I Told You Lately That I Love You and Rory shares that the Jim Reeves 1950's song was his fathers favorite and the only song played at his funeral.
