Joe Webb is a quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League. A 2010 draftee coming from the University of Alabama-Birmingham, Webb set numerous marks in Conference USA before he was drafted by the Vikings during the 2010 NFL Draft.
Webb went to school in his hometown of Birmingham all his life, leading his local high school to the state playoffs as quarterback during his senior year. 2010 Season
Webb began his NFL career when he was drafted in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. Webb entered training camp battling Sage Rosenfels for the third quarterback spot on the team, Webb was awarded the job after Rosenfels was traded away. In the preseason, Webb had the best numbers of all of the Vikings quarterbacks. Through the Vikings first three games in the regular season, Webb had been designated as the third quarterback in each of them and had yet to appear in a game.
2009 Season
Webb entered his senior season at UAB as the starting quarterback for the second consecutive year. Known as a scrambling quarterback, Webb ran for 1,427 yards in 2009, leading all quarterbacks in the country. The figure also came in as the third most in NCAA history for quarterbacks. Webb would go on to win the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year award, throwing for 21 touchdown passes while running for another 11. Joe Webb's speed was well-known in college and something rare for an NFL quarterback to have. He showed off some of his speed in a preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers, where he ran for a long 54 yard touchdown.
