Joe Staley is an offensive lineman for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League. He was born on August 30, 1984 in Rockford, Michigan. He stands six feet and five inches tall, weighs 315 pounds, and wears jersey number 74. He was drafted in the first round (28th overall) by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2007 NFL Draft. He attended Central Michigan University where he majored in business with a minor in sports studies. He graduated from Rockford high school in Rockford, MI where he lettered twice in both football and track. He set records at his high school for the 200 meter relay in track. Staley played in 46 games over four seasons at Central Michigan. He earned All-Mid American Conference honors his junior and senior years. Staley recorded 100 key blocks, and 22 touchdown-resulting blocks also his senior year.

In 2009 Staley was injured with a sprained knee ligament and missed five games, from October 1st through December 20th.
In 2008 Staley started all 16 games at left tackle, and was the only player on the team that did not miss a single snap all year. He scored his first career touchdown on a fumble recovery in the end zone against the New York Jets on December 7th. He also helped hold the Arizona Cardinals to zero sacks for the first time in an NFL record 31 games on November 10th.
In his 2007 rookie season, he started all 16 regular season games, a record for rookie starts for an offensive lineman on the 49ers.
