Joe Simon

Joe Simon is an American comic book artist, writer, and publisher.

Career

Joe Simon worked retouching Paramount publicity photos before meeting Fox Feature Syndicate artist Jack Kirby, who he would collaborate with for 15 years.

In 1940, the two created their most popular character: Captain America. With patriotic feelings running high during World War II, sales of Captain America Comics were reportedly over a million a month--more than the circulation of Time Magazine and other publications.

After World War II, Simon drew for advertisements and commercial art, often contributing to Archie Comics and some DC titles through the 1970s. In response to the death of Captain America in 2007, he stated it was a "hell of a time for him to go."
