Joe Meek was an English music producer and songwriter who is cited as being rock n' roll's first independent producer.

Career
Joe Meek's recording studio was located in his cramped home at 304 Holloway Road. His pioneering use of over-dubbing, editing, and homemade electronics earned him recognition as one of rock's most imaginative producers. Between 1962 and 1967 he recorded a string of hits, the most famous was "Telstar" by The Tornados.Death
In the years leading up to his death, Meek became depressed and paranoid. On February 3, 1967 Meek killed himself and his landlord, Violet Shenton, with a single barreled shotgun.
