Joe Kelly Hawley was born on October 22, 1988, in Bakersfield, California. He attended Esteranza High School in Yorba Linda, California, where he played football on the offense and defense as well as was a member of the track team. Hawley earned several honors as a prep such as selections to the All-Region teams and as the Sunset League Offensive Lineman of the Year award in 2005. After high school, Hawley moved on to play college football with the Nevada Wolf Pack football team in the NCAA.
