American actor Joe Flanigan has played John Sheppard on Stargate Atlantis since 2004. After pursuing a writing career in both Washington DC and New York City, Flaigan moved to Los Angeles in 1994 to pursue a career in acting. Flanigan landed guest roles in numerous television series including Profiler, Dawson's Creek and Sisters until his breakthrough on Stargate Atlantis.
