  • MLB Career

    Joe Crede was drafted in 1996 by the Chicago White Sox in the fifth round of the MLB amateur draft. He played for the team's minor league teams for several seasons before making his major league debut in 2000.

    Crede saw a break-out season in 2003, when he played in 151 games, including 536 attempts at bat for 68 runs, 140 hits, 75 runs batted in and 19 homeruns. In 2005, he helped the White Sox win the World Series over the Houston Astros. His numbers improved in 2006, when he recorded a career-high 76 runs, 154 hits, 30 homeruns and a .283 batting average. Crede won his first Silver Slugger Award that same year for his efforts.

  • Back Injury

    In 2007, Crede was placed on the injury list for most of the season with a back injury, and had back surgery at the end of the season. His back continued to trouble him in 2008.ESPN.com: Back Injury

    Returning to the White Sox in 2008, Crede recorded 41 runs, 83 hits, 55 runs batted in, 17 homeruns and a .248 batting average. He was also selected for his first MLB All-Star Game that year.
