Joe Chiccarelli is an American Grammy Award winning music producer best known for the huge amount of production work he did in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. He produced albums by Kajagoogoo, The White Stripes, Stan Ridgway, Oingo Boingo, Ferron, Sandra Bernhard, Spirit of the West, Counting Crows, U2, The Shins, Radiohead, Elton John, the Cult and countless others. He also engineered Frank Zappa's albums Sheik Yerbouti (1979), Joe's Garage Acts I, II & III (1979) and Tinseltown Rebellion (1981) - it was this work with Zappa that led My Morning Jacket to approach him to produce their 2008 album Evil Urges.
In the late 1970s, Chicarelli moved to Los Angeles and obtained a position as an assistant engineer at the LA Cherokee Studios. It was at that location that Chicarelli substituted for the primary engineer for the recording of the Frank Zappa album, Sheil Yerbouti. That started a collaboration with Zappa on subsequent albums.
He is also credited with discovering singer Tori Amos and signing her first band, Y Kant Tori Read, to a label deal. He recently helped Louisville, KY rockers My Morning Jacket produce their new album, Evil Urges, Portland rock band Castella produce their album How Did We Get Here, and Australian band Augie March produce their new album Watch Me Disappear.
During the design of the two studio facility known as Royaltone Studios, Chicarelli collaborated with certain architectural elements of the design as well as the technical design of the studios themselves.
Chicarelli is currently producing The Strokes' fourth album which is scheduled for a 2010 release and has just finished producing Minus the Bear's forthcoming album Omni.

Boston native, Joe Chicarelli, is a music producer that got his first break as engineer for Frank Zappa on his "Sheik Yerbouti" album. Subsequent to that he has produced albums for U2, Oingo Boingo and Elton John among others. Currently he is producing the foruth album for The Strokes.
